Salvation

by Terry Dalrymple

"In the title story of Salvation, gas station attendant Charlie Don Atwood desires a woman and turns to God to help him find one. In other stories, an elderly hypochondriac wants sympathy and turns to a fifty-year-old memory in search of it; an aging widow desires escape from boredom and turns to robbery for excitement; a high school boy desires the prettiest girl in class but must maneuver around a drug dealer, a bi-sexual, and a hefty girl with a tinfoil club during his pursuit; and a frustrated husband desires freedom from a wife who dribbles toothpaste on the faucet and refrigerates Vienna sausages, and he must play a quirky poker game to determine his fate. From the comic to the somber, these and the other five character-driven stories of this collection entertainingly convey the mysterious magic of human relationships.
